Extracts from the 31 December 1827 Census of Upper Prospect

The 1827 census of Upper Prospect shows the population as consisting of 44 families made up of:

Of the 44 families, all gave their occupation as "fisheries" with the exception of Patrick Purcell, Senior, who gave his as "agriculture" and Patrick Mara who gave his as "manufacture". As well, all gave their religion as Roman Catholic.

During the year ending 30 September , there were 12 births, 1 marriage and 2 deaths. The land under cultivation, which was farmed by 25 of the families, consisted of 219 acres, all below 20 acres in size, except for Patrick Purcell who farmed 100 acres. Produce produced consisted of 2 bushels of wheat, 196 bushels of other grains, 73 tons of hay and 438O bushels of potatoes. Stock belonging to the families consisted of 8 horses, 68 horned cattle, 47 sheep, and 68 swine.
